The early part of the Cart Path The Cart Path starts at the Old Toll Road just below the Halfway House Site and the start of the White Arrow Trail. The sign for the Cart Path is on a tree about 15-20 ft from the road. The trail is noticeable, but also easily missed if you aren't paying attention. Over the distance of the trail, the Cart Path only gains 20 feet in elevation. It has some small ups and downs, but is mostly level for the length of it. It is an easy trail with very few rocks. The trail doesn't see much traffic, but is a great way to connect to the Western side of the mountain or have a different loop up to Monte Rosa all while avoiding the crowds.

Slightly uphill in mostly open forrest The beginning of the trail is very flat, with almost no rocks at all following on compacted dirt. Almost immediately after starting up this trail, you will come with the intersection with the Old Halfway House trail passing from your left to your right. This intersection is well marked with a sign right at the intersection. Continuing on, you almost immediately come to your second intersection. This time with the Royce Trail also well marked with a sign. Now after this you start going slightly downhill to a small brook crossing. You then turn a little to left and go slightly uphill.

Crossing through a stone wall After a small right hand turn you continue through the open hard woods mostly going straight and on almost level ground. After a while you will come to an area that starts to have a few stone walls that you cross through and intersect just to the side of the trail. Here you will also notice a large rounded rock outcropping. After a short distance more you will start to come to a more densely wooded area with some softwood trees. This is where the Cart Path stops and turns into the Mossy Brook Trail.

When descending... the trail continues where the lower end of the Mossy Brook Trail leaves off. It will follow along mostly level ground with few turns. After a dip and in the trail at a brook crossing, the Cart Path will cross over the Royce Trail and then shortly after, the Old Halfway House Trail, just before ending at the Old Toll Road.
