Early section of trail The Great Pasture Trail starts at the intersection with the Mossy Brook and Marian Trails. From here it leads up to the peak of Monte Rosa where it meets the Smith Summit Trail. The trail begins by crossing a small wet area. It then begins to climb on a smooth base of dirt and needles from the trees along the trail. As the trail continues upward, it gets a little steeper and starts to get rockier. To begin with, these rocks tend to be large flat ones that still make for a mostly smooth trail.

Nearing the top of the trail After a brief section of rocks, they go away and the trail becomes smoother again. The steepness of the trail however, does not go away. In fact, the trail starts to become even steeper as it nears the end. The trail also gets to be quite rocky as well. Soon though you start to come out of the trees and on to a open rock surface. Just a short distance up this and you are at the end of the trail when you get to Monte Rosa and the Smith Summit Trail.

When descending... the trail heads downhill to the West off the right side of Monte Rosa. The trail is easy to follow until its end. It can be a little steep at times, but has good footing. On the steep sections you should take your time and pay attention to where you are putting your feet. But you shouldn't have too hard of a time going down this trail.
