Early section of trail The Mossy Brook Trail starts at the upper end of the Cart Path where the forest turns from hardwoods to softwoods. The trail starts off with a small right hand turn and then continues mostly straight running parallel to Mossy Brook just on your left. This small brook has many cascades make for nice sights and pleasant sounds while hiking. The trail has some rocks sticking up out of the ground at this point, but they aren't very big and still make for easy walking.

Brook Crossing After following the brook for a while, the trail veers away slightly to the right. The trail surface gets a little rougher and even goes directly over a large rock. The trail still isn't very steep though. Shortly after, the trail turns back to the left and comes back to the brook. It then crosses the brook and turns right to run beside it again. The footing is still good and the trail maintains its easy grade while it continues just a little further to its end. Here you can either take a left on to the Marian Trail, or a right on to the Great Pasture Trail.

When descending... The start of the trail is at the intersection with the Marian and Great Pasture Trails. The trail is easy to follow gradually down the mountain. It follows the Mossy Brook briefly before turning left and crossing it. It then gets a little distance away from the brook before turning right and coming back next to it. Footing is solid and the trail isn't steep. The trail comes to its lower end when it becomes the Cart Path where the forest opens back up suddenly.
